Dorcas Weatherred
Memorial Scholarship

Dorcas Weatherred is remembered as a life-long learner and educator!  She began teaching at the age of 20 years old.  Dorcas is one of the longest reigning educators in Plainview ISD for over 45 years.

Gifted in the classroom, Dorcas was dedicated to ensuring each child was equipped with reading skills necessary for future academic accomplishment and lifetime success. While in Plainview ISD, Mrs. Weatherred instructed students at Ash Elementary, Thunderbird Elementary, Austin Heights Elementary, and Hillcrest Elementary.

Following her career with Plainview ISD, Dorcas taught at Calico Caboose Preschool for 15 years.  She continued teaching students to excel in reading at the age of 5.  Dorcas was truly one of the most exceptional educators.

Education wasn’t just Dorcas’s job:  it was her life.  She was married to her husband, Harrell for 53 years.  Harrell was also a lifelong educator.  The two of them raised three boys.  Dorcas loved her Lord, and she loved people!  She truly loved her family, friends, and the children she taught over 50 years.

Plainview Education Foundation wishes to honor a graduating senior pursuing a career in education. Education was Dorcas’s passions in life.  Scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit, community service, letters of recommendation, and essay.  2023 did no have an applicant pursuing a career in education.  We look forward to awarding this honor in 2024!

Danny Wrenn

Memorial Scholarship

“Today is a great day to be alive!”
- one of the most notable Danny-isms.

The 2023 PEF Scholarship Committee awarded Sam Massingill with the Danny Wrenn Memorial Scholarship.

As a long-time educator at Plainview ISD, Danny Wrenn is characterized as having lived each day with passion for his profession and the endless possibilities he saw in each student.  Danny embodied the qualities of trustworthiness, confidence, self-awareness, optimism, and compassion.  In memory of Danny and his legacy, the family wishes to support graduating seniors of Plainview ISD that exhibit these same characteristics with a scholarship through the Plainview Education Foundation.

Danny Wrenn is an icon in high school basketball, leading the Lady Bulldogs Basketball program to the top ranks in the state of Texas for 33 years.  However, he wasn’t just a leader to his team, but to ALL students in which he crossed paths.  The impact of countless years of his relentless optimism, life-lessons, and “family” traditions will continue for generations.  Danny created an environment of mutual respect through his genuine belief that everyone could achieve greatness.

Beyond his role as an educator, Danny was most proud of his family and his relationship with the Lord.  Danny was most happy when his wife and daughter would join him and the team but equally cherished their time away from the court.  Whether you were family, a player, a student, or an occasional acquaintance, you were guaranteed to have witnessed the light of Danny that continues to shine today.

*Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit, community service, citizenship, letters of recommendation, and essay.
